The Programs

The main program, Burklyn Ballet Theatre, is for the 12-25 year old pre-professional dancer. This unique program offers weekly performance opportunities to all dancers in our 450 seat state-of-the-art theatre. Dancers take three classes daily with internationally acclaimed master teachers, and rehearse for the weekly performance. Compulsory seminars in stage craft, make-up, nutrition, Pilates, and career counseling are given weekly. All dancers must be 12 by January 1 of the year attending.

The Intermediate Program accepts 18 dancers ages 10-12 years. They take two classes daily with their own director and ballet mistress, in their own studio. All dancers perform as part of Burklyn Ballet Theatre at the end of the two week session.

The Edinburgh Connection is a two week program, on selected years, for 25 dancers who travel with Artistic Director, Joanne Whitehill to Scotland and perform as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They must attend Burklyn Ballet Theatre for the last four weeks prior to leaving for Scotland to prepare for the performances.

The Choreographic Project is open to 6 dancers 15 years and older who wish to experiment in choreography. They are required to submit a proposal including type of dance, number of dancers, composer, costume requirements and lighting plan to the Artistic Director. Choreographic students are required to attend classes as well as conduct all their rehearsals.

The BBT Workshop is a two week program available to dancers 12 years old and up.  The workshop is a program for serious dancers with less experience.  Participants of this program take one ballet class and two other classes each day.  This provides the dancers with a less intensive, yet professional experience.  These dancers are given two weeks to perfect the choreography and perform on the last Saturday of their session.
